Proposed Plans

The designs for Montgomery take into account the different developmental aspects associated with age and different abilities encouraging intergenerational play in some aspects, while also bringing about managed risk to develop confidence and self reliance. There is provision for different types of play according to age, ability, need and desire to support sensory, active, social, dynamic and quiet play.

The designs integrate equipment that can be easily accessed by able as well as disabled children so that there is no specific or targeted separation and children can interact with one another. Earth Wrights have included the use of colour, texture and sound, as well as wheelchair friendly surfacing and accessible play features. They have also made frequent use of sensory planting which is especially beneficial for neuro-diverse children, and included elements that foster play between different age groups, and places where parents and carers can rest and relax.

The design includes play elements suitable for all ages and abilities, and places where play overlaps between the different degrees of challenge so children of all ages can play together. The different and interesting textures of the ropes, nets and wood offer a guide through the space as well as sensory stimulation. There are spaces for both quiet reflection and active excitement, as well as elements which create a sense of purpose and challenge.

The main structures use hard wearing FSC Robinia wood sourced within Europe alongside larch and oak. Other materials include recycled elements or sustainable products.

The proposed design does not currently include a fence around it. This has been discussed at much length and there are arguments for and against the need for one. At this point, no fence is included within the project scheme or quote. This will be monitored once the park is in place. Please see the Additional Resource links below for consideration around the fence debate
